Adult Recognition
ADULT VOLUNTEERS AND GIRL SCOUT LEADERS ARE THE KEY TO SUCCESSFUL GIRL SCOUTING!
Knowledge, skills, and time contributed by adults makes it possible for girls to
enjoy the many exciting advantages Girl Scouting offers. Girls, parents, and
volunteers are encouraged to acknowledge the contributions of others through
adult recognitions. Adults join Girl Scouting to be of service to girls and to
the organization itself. Their reward is in giving - and in forming relationships
not only with girls but with other adults with whom they share a common purpose.
Girl Scout adult recognitions are designed to reinforce the qualities that Girl
Scouting values most by acknowledging individuals and teams for unique and outstanding service.

"Human beings want and need appreciation for the work they do. Whether in the form of a simple thank-you for a small job well done or a formal commendation for years of faithful service in a key position of an organization, such acknowledgement is a signal to the recipient that she or he is noticed and appreciated -that she or he is recognized."--GSUSA Adult Recognitions in Girl Scouting

RECOGNITION: AN ATTITUDE OF APPRECIATION
AN ATTITUDE OF APPRECIATION CAN BE CREATED BY:
---being aware of the extra effort put forth by an individual
---taking the time to mention a person’s service or to thank her or him for a job well done.
---helping people to attain a higher level of achievement.
---recommending a person for special training or participation in a special event.
---developing a climate wherein work is sincerely noticed and noted at all levels.
WHO SHOULD BE RECOGNIZED?
Inside Girl Scouting:
---leaders, co-leaders, and assistant leaders
---troop committee/troop support members
---group coordinators
---service unit or team members
---special service adults, e.g. those involved in fund-raising drives, product sales, special projects, and special events.
---program consultants
---trainers, officers, board members, task force members
Outside Girl Scouting:
---merchants
---civic leaders
---sponsors
---organizations that provide meeting places
---police officers, fire fighters and first aid assistants
---librarians, teachers, custodians
---newspapers, radio and TV stations
---community organizations
WHEN AND HOW TO RECOGNIZE
If a recognition takes the form of a pin, badge, certificate, or other tangible token, or is merely a formal thank-you, presentation at an appropriate ceremony can highlight the expression of appreciation and enhance its significance for the recipient. When and how the recipient is recognized will make the expression of gratitude memorable.
