On Monday December 3, the Council Realignment Committee (CRC) met for its monthly meeting. On the agenda was the naming of the new council. Through dialogue and feedback from members of the three current Councils, the CRC has discovered that we may not have allowed ample time for all members of all three Councils to vote. We regret coming back to you a second time, but as Girl Scouts we want to be sure that everyone has the opportunity to vote and that the name we select is one that we can all be happy with now and in the future.
In addition, we wanted to include a third choice that is a national standard. With that said, the CRC voted to reopen the selection of the name of the new Council with the following choices:
Girl Scouts of Eastern Oklahoma
Girl Scouts of Eastern Oklahoma Spirit
Girl Scouts of Eastern Oklahoma Sunrise
The voting rules are as follows:
§  Each member has one vote
§  When reporting troop votes, the leader should report the number of votes for each choice
§  Adult Girl Scout members are eligible and encouraged to vote
We want our name to be reflective of our entire membership through this process in order to begin building a strong and common bond.

To whom do you report your votes at each Council?
Bluestem, you may e-mail klynch@gsbluestem.org or call in your votes 1-800-457-4475.
Magic Empire, you may e-mail gale@mecgs.org or call in your votes to 1-918-745-5204.
Tiak, you may e-mail staff@gstiak.org or call in your votes to Rose at 1-888-691-5765.

OR Simply go to this site and vote direct: Click Here to Vote
The voting process ends January 3, 2008. The name of our new council will be announced after the CRC meeting, which will be held Monday January 7, 2008.

Remember that only one vote per member is allowed and please email or call in your votes promptly.  We want to be inclusive as we continue our vision in creating a Girl Scout Council that puts girls first, stands together, and reaches across all areas with a supportive culture that is FUN, INTERESTING, and REAL.

Happy Holidays from the CRC committee!

TIAK

Do you know what it means?

TIAK means Pine Tree in the Choctaw Native American Indian language.
For those of you who are familiar with or have attended one of our many events
at Robbers Cave State Park, near Wilburton, OK, you realize how appropriate the
name Tiak is. The hills of southeastern Oklahoma, where our council is located,
are filled with beautiful pine trees.

The Girl Scout Promise and Law

Girl Scouting is a values-based organization, not a religious one.
The Girl Scout Promise and Law are its guiding principles.

The Girl Scout Promise

On my honor, I will try:
To serve God and my country,
To help people at all times,
And to live by the Girl Scout Law.

*The word "God" in the Promise has always been used to represent the spiritual foundation
of the Girl Scout movement. Since Girl Scouting is for all girls, girls whose beliefs are expressed
by a word or phrase other than "God" may substitute that for the word "God" when they say the
Girl Scout Promise. When written, the word "God" is always in the Promise.

The Girl Scout Law

I will do my best to be
     honest and fair,
     friendly and helpful,
     considerate and caring,
     courageous and strong, and
responsible for what I say and do,
and to
     respect myself and others,
     respect authority,
     use resources wisely,
make the world a better place, and
be a sister to every Girl Scout.

The Girl Scout Law was revised in October, 1996,
following a vote at the triennial National Council Session in Fort Worth, Texas.

Ways you can Contribute

Troop Leadership

Girl Scout Troop Leader is one of the most important roles you can play.
You may offer to become the sole leader of a troop, or you may share leadership
with two or three responsible people. Troops usually meet once a week or once
every two weeks. The council provides training, guidance, a network of
activities and fund-raising opportunities.

Not ready to be a Troop Leader?

Girl Scouts of Tiak Council can work with women and men to match your skills,
willingness and available time (no matter how small) to an appropriate volunteer
role. Experience is not required. Adult volunteers carry out the purpose and
activities of Girl Scouting in partnership with girls. Girl Scouts Tiak Council
is eager to provide a rewarding experience for you. Volunteers who work with
girls are asked to pay the annual dues of $10, complete an application and to
provide three references. For more information on volunteer opportunities,
please use the contact information below.

Support Girl Scouts through Donations

Girl Scouting offers many opportunities to make a difference in the lives
of girls. Financial support is just one of those ways. Donations also include
merchandise, real estate, stock, equipment - even Girl Scout uniforms and
memorabilia. Contributions can be made in general support or for a specific
purpose or area within the council. To make a donation or for more information,
call the council using the contact information given below.
